Kent
is a small town located in Litchfield County in western Connecticut. The town lies on the state border of New York, and has approximately 3,000 residents. The town is home to three boarding schools: South Kent School, Kent School and The Marvelwood School. The Schaghticoke Indian Reservation is also located within the town of Kent. The Appalachia Mountains provide a beautiful backdrop to the town and also offer unlimited recreational activities. Macedonia Brook State Park, for example, boasts hiking trails, campgrounds, picnic facilities with grills and a hilltop lake. Blue Trail in the park lead to peaks from which hikers enjoy fantastic views of the Catskill Mountains and Taconic Mountains. Also nearby is Kent Falls State Park, which is called the "Jewel of the Inland Parks." A total of 17 different waterfalls are located inside the park and empty directly into the Housatonic River, which is across from the park. A hiking trail leads up to the falls, but it is somewhat difficult as it rises 250 feet in just a quarter of a mile. Kent Falls State Park is also a designated Trout Park. Other nearby attractions include Bulls Bridge, which is one of three remaining covered bridges in the state. George Washington crossed the Housatonic River in 1781 near the site of this bridge. Kent is also home to the Sloane-Stanley Museum, which features the studio and antique collection of Eric Sloane, an American landscape artist.

Central Connecticut has a generally temperate, four-season climate. The state lies within the transition zone of humid subtropical and a humid continental. Connecticut receives some 25 to 60 in of snow each year. The average annual snowfall increases from the coast to the northwestern corner of the State. Temperatures are comparatively uniform across the state. The number of days with minimum temperatures of zero or below average about five in the lower uplands and central valley. Thunderstorms occur on an average of 20 to 30 days per year, with the greatest frequency during the summer months and in the afternoon or evening. The humidity tends to be lowest in the spring and highest in the late summer and early fall.
