Sharon is a small town located in Litchfield County in northwest Connecticut. The population is approximately 3,000 residents. Sharon is bounded on the east by the Housatonic River and is just east of the Housatonic State Forest. The state forest covers nearly 10,000 acres of rugged hills and forest, providing a gorgeous backdrop for the Housatonic River. It's one of Connecticut's most scenic regions. The Housatonic State Forest is a multi-use forest; recreational use, as a natural wildlife area, watershed protection for the Housatonic River and for scientific research. There are also two Connecticut Natural Area Preserves in the state forest; Gold's Pines and the Canaan Mountain Natural Area Preserve. Activities near the town of Sharon include boating, fishing, camping and hiking. The Housatonic State Forest is the only Connecticut state forest that contains part of the famous Appalachian Trail (AT) which runs for over 2,100 miles, from Georgia to Maine. Other attractions near Sharon include several campgrounds, Mohawk State Park and Forest, Housatonic Meadows State Park, Haystack Mountain State Park, Above All State Park and Kent Falls State Park.

Sharon Weather & Climate

The Hudson Valley Region which generally refers to the canyon area of the Hudson River and surrounding communities in New York State, has a four-season climate. The first significant snowfall usually occurs in December, but there are variations. Some years there is no snow or ice and the temperatures and river stays quite mild - high 40s to low 50s. March is the month to look for the first signs of spring. Summers in the Hudson Valley are hazy, warm and humid. September can be a mixed bag of clear, cool Canadian air or humid, warm air with intense downpours. October is one of the best months in the region for hiking and other outdoor sports. The weather is cooler and less humid then, with crisp, clear views of the High Peaks of the Adirondacks, the Catskills and the Hudson Highlands.
