Salisbury
is a small town located in Litchfield County in the northwest corner of Connecticut. It is the northernmost town in the state, with a population of approximately 4,000 residents. The Tri-State Marker for Massachusetts, New York and Connecticut is located just north of the border of Salisbury. The town of Salisbury dates to 1741 and contains many historic homes, as well as being home to the oldest Methodist Church in New England. Early on, Salisbury was well-known for its iron industry. The town also contains the village of Lakeville, which is a separate "census-designated place" within the town. Lakeville includes the Lakeville Historic District, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It includes about ten acres which remains virtually unchanged from the 19th century. Salisbury also boasts the Scoville Library, the first in the United States to open to the public free of charge. The Appalachian Trail runs through Salisbury and ski jumping competitions are held at Satre Hill in the town. It has hosted the U.S. Eastern Ski Jumping Championships since 1952. The village is also well known for its auto racing course at Lime Rock Park, which is a natural-terrain motorsport road racing venue. The race track is owned by former race car driver, Skip Barber, who started the Skip Barber Racing School in 1975.

The Hudson Valley Region which generally refers to the canyon area of the Hudson River and surrounding communities in New York State, has a four-season climate. The first significant snowfall usually occurs in December, but there are variations. Some years there is no snow or ice and the temperatures and river stays quite mild - high 40s to low 50s. March is the month to look for the first signs of spring. Summers in the Hudson Valley are hazy, warm and humid. September can be a mixed bag of clear, cool Canadian air or humid, warm air with intense downpours. October is one of the best months in the region for hiking and other outdoor sports. The weather is cooler and less humid then, with crisp, clear views of the High Peaks of the Adirondacks, the Catskills and the Hudson Highlands.
