Norfolk
is in Litchfield County in the northwest corner of Connecticut. As of the 2000 census, the population was 1,660 residents. Norfolk is home to the Yale Summer School of Music - Norfolk Chamber Music Festival. Each year, the school hosts a music concert series in the Music Shed, a performance hall located on the Ellen Battell Stoeckel estate, which is west of the Norfolk village green. The village of Norfolk also has many examples of regional architecture, including the Arts-and Crafts style, Romanesque Revival and several others of the early 1900s. Norfolk also offers a farmers market, country club and several romantic inns and restaurants and unique shops. Loon Meadow Farm provides old-fashioned hay rides and sleigh rides, or a romantic carriage ride. Three state parks are in the area; Dennis Hill State Park, Haystack Mountain State Park and Campbell Falls State Park. Dennis Park is just south of town and offers hiking, camping and a unique pavilion sitting atop a summit at 1,627 feet elevation. Haystack Mountain is north of town and has an observation tower and offers great hiking trails. Campbell Falls is about five miles north of town and is home to several beautiful cascading waterfalls and is perfect for a hike or picnic.

Central Connecticut has a generally temperate, four-season climate. The state lies within the transition zone of humid subtropical and a humid continental. Connecticut receives some 25 to 60 in of snow each year. The average annual snowfall increases from the coast to the northwestern corner of the State. Temperatures are comparatively uniform across the state. The number of days with minimum temperatures of zero or below average about five in the lower uplands and central valley. Thunderstorms occur on an average of 20 to 30 days per year, with the greatest frequency during the summer months and in the afternoon or evening. The humidity tends to be lowest in the spring and highest in the late summer and early fall.
