Brooklyn
is a historic town located in Windham County in northeastern Connecticut. As of the 2000 census, the population was 7,173 residents. The town was first settled in the 1600s, and incorporated in 1786. The early historic architecture is still evident in the town, including the large homes, courthouse and jail that is now used as the Town Hall. The town of Brooklyn is divided into two distinct areas; the town center village and the district known as East Brooklyn. Both are "census-designated places." The central and western parts of town are mostly residential and rural path, whereas the eastern part is predominantly commercial. Many of the old homes and churches have been restored. Brooklyn is one of the fastest growing towns in Windham County and home to America's oldest continuously operating agricultural fair. Attractions include the Brooklyn Historical Society Museum and the gravesite of Revolutionary War General, Israel Putnam. In addition, a statue of Putnam was erected in 1888 and now stands in the town green in front of the post office. Places in town listed on the National Register of Historic Places include Old Trinity Church, Putnam Farm, Trinity Church, the Unitarian Meetinghouse, and the Brooklyn Green Historic District.

Northeast Connecticut has four seasons that lie within the transition zone of humid subtropical and humid continental. The pertinent characteristics of Connecticut's climate are: equal distribution of precipitation among the four seasons, large ranges of temperature both daily and annually, and considerable diversity of the weather over short periods of time. Heavy or dense fog is observed on an average of about 25 days per year in both coastal and inland sections. Humidity tends to be lowest in the spring and highest in the late summer. There is a difference of about 6 °F. in mean annual temperature from north to south of the State. The greater contrast of temperature occurs during the winter season.
