Andover
is a small New England town nestled in the hills of Tolland County in northeastern Connecticut. As of the 2000 census, the population was 3,036 residents. In 1747 an Ecclesiastical Society was formed in the area surrounding Andover. From this society, the 15.7 square mile town was incorporated in 1848 from land acquired from both towns of Hebron and Coventry. Andover became the 146th official town of the current 169 towns in Connecticut at that time. The town of Andover contains a historic district, added to Tolland County in 2003. It lies roughly along Herbron Road, Boston Hill Road and US 6 and contains 2700 acres, with 60 buildings, 4 "other" structures and one object. Andover is near Coventry Lake, also known as Wangumbaug Lake. This lake is spring fed and covers 373 acres. It has one natural outlet, known as Coventry Lake Brook. Patriots Park is located at the lake and offers a beach area, playground, picnic area, lodge, community center and a band shell for summer concerts. Other attractions near Andover include the Nathan Hale Homestead, which was first built around 1740. However, the present structure has been standing since 1776. The original 450 acres of the Hale farm now make up a large portion of the Nathan Hale State Forest. The Hale's family home on South Street in the town of Coventry is a museum, open seasonally for tours. Several other places of historical interest are located in the towns and villages of Tolland County.

Central Connecticut has a generally temperate, four-season climate. The state receives some 25 to 60 in of snow each year. The average annual snowfall increases from the coast to the northwestern corner of the State. Most of the snow falls in January and February. Temperatures are comparatively uniform across the state. The number of days with minimum temperatures of zero or below average about five in the lower uplands and central valley. Thunderstorms occur on an average of 20 to 30 days per year, with the greatest frequency during the summer months and in the afternoon or evening. The humidity tends to be lowest in the spring and highest in the late summer and early fall.
